The true value of a business coach...getting you where you want to go!
As a business owner, you know that the success or failure of your business ultimately depends on you. Wait, read that again! Of course you know this; you started the business and took on the challenge willingly. But it doesn’t need to be the burden that some owners deal with.
It’s a common myth that working harder is the best way to deal with the pressures of running your business. We all like to think that extending your work hours and multi-tasking are effective ways to be more productive at work. Yet, this thinking is flawed.
We know from studies on stress that performance doesn’t always increase as a result of putting more pressure on yourself. Pushing yourself too hard will just lead to overwork and burnout.
Additional pressure might lead to initial improvements, but then performance plateaus and ultimately declines as the pressures associated with overwork increase. When crisis, industry volatility, societal shifts, or workplace pressures result in stress, it’s time to focus on building resilience as a leader: the ability to bounce back from obstacles and setbacks.
Too much pressure or stress creates narrowed thinking and increases the likelihood of flawed reasoning. It also activates your body’s stress response, releasing a tsunami of chemicals and hormones.
Today, change is the only constant, so building resilience as a leader is necessary in this uncertain and volatile world. The question is, how can you develop it?
The most successful entrepreneurs and leaders (who all started off like you) count mentorship, counsel, good advice, and education as their most valuable experiences. Nobody can achieve fantastic results on their own. Behind every business success, there is a story of teamwork and collaboration.
“It is not the strongest of the species that survives nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.” Charles Darwin
No one gets to the podium or the championship without a team and coaching...Lets use the 2019 NBA champions, the Toronto Raptors as an example. Obviously Kyle Lowry was a key ingredient in the team’s success. But it wasn’t just his skills that made the difference. Just a few weeks ago he was quoted as crediting the personal advice and coaching he got from Nick Nurse as a key component of his success. Needless to say, Nick Nurse’s contributions as coach were pivotal to the team’s ultimate championship success.
So where are you in your business ownership journey? Maybe you have hit a roadblock to growth or profitability. You may possibly be working too many hours and still can’t seem to get what you need from your business. Perhaps you’re thinking about exiting or transition? These are common pivotal moments for many business owners so you are not alone.
